Farm Steading Conversion

Mercat Cross Ltd.

A conversion of redundant stone farm steading buildings to create 11 private residential properties as well as 4 new build houses within the boundary of the steading.

The design retained much of the original character of the steading and introduced contemporary glazed sun-rooms for added amenity. The new build houses were contemporary in design, but utilised salvaged stone from required demolitions, thus ensuring continuity between conversion and new build. Under floor heating was provided throughout all properties and both foul and surface water drainage were dealt with via a state of the art NEWTS reed bed and pond system.

This project was shortlisted for the Scottish Homes ‘Conversion of the Year’ award and ‘Architectural Excellence’ award 2009.
