Covell Matthews Architects Aberdeen worked with Shell and Landmark to construct a Real Time Operating Centre (RTOC), on the Tullos campus.
Shell has a vision to “Become the recognised industry leader in real-time operations technology, providing the well delivery teams and its partners across the globe with state-of-the-art well visualisation and real-time information technology to help plan, drill and complete wells at maximum efficiency and lowest unit technical cost (UTC)”.
Steve Moffat of AVC Media Enterprises Ltd planned and designed the complex IT system comprising 45 PC’s, 32 LCD displays and 3 Control systems, uniquely designed to allow maximum flexibility and control over how the data is used and managed. A newly designed FTP site allows the client to make any updates instantly providing long-term functionality.
Andrew Mowat, Project Manager for Covell Matthews Architects stated that the “RTOC works has been demanding with various challenges due to the complex interconnections of IT infrastructures. We are looking forward to handing over the project on programme and under budget”
“It is going to be an outstanding tool for our Senior Well Engineers. It can be used at a number of different levels: to speed up the well planning process, to enable 24-hour monitoring by highly experienced staff, and to allow onshore and offshore to communicate more effectively on a daily basis, in terms of making informed drilling decisions based on shared visual information.”
